Reds Stuff
Well, since I am pumped about spring training coming up, I figured I would wax poetic about the Reds. These are my pre-preseason thoughts:
- The Reds season, as usual, will be determined by the pitching staff. The re-singing of Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo were big steps for the team to take. Harang is a potential ace, but definitely is a #1 starter. Arroyo is very solid, you know you are getting 200+ innings and 10-14 wins. The rest of the starting staff is pretty brutal and there is no one in the pen. Todd Coffey is the closest thing we have to a closer, so hopefully he gets the chance again and doesn't suck like last year.
- My spring training infatuation this year (see previous post!) is Josh Hamilton. Hamilton is the former can't miss outfielder who was drafted #1 overall in 1999. He has all the tools to be an awesome player. He just had a bad couple of years with cocaine addiction and alcohol problems and all that other fun stuff. I hope he does well just because it is a good story. Apparently he is clean now, but I'm thinking they probably shouldn't let him room with Ryan Freel...you know...just in case.
- Rumor has it that Adam Dunn lost some weight and is wanting to prove that he can be a complete player. If this is true (IF!), it is a huge benefit for the Reds. I think Dunn has the ability to be a Hall of Fame type player, he just needs to get his head in the game. This will be an interesting storyline to follow.
- Ken Griffey Jr. - Can he play 130 games? I'd take 130 games from him. I doubt he will be able to though. It's too bad really...take away these injuries and people would be talking about him instead of Barry "Jupiter Head" Bonds. Oh well.
That's about it for now...more baseball observations to come.
