Reds Update - 4.17.07
Now that the Reds have played a few games this season we can start making overly exaggerated prognostications about the team and the players. Here goes:
- Adam Dunn will be the National League MVP after hitting 50 HR, 125 RBI's, and hitting about 290 points out of a possible one thousand. He will have cut down his strikeouts to a somewhat reasonable number of 140.
- Bronson Arroyo will go 0-25 with an ERA around 3.10. At some point later in the year players will actually refuse to swing the bat when he is pitching. Check that...looks like that is already happening.
- Jeff Conine will continue to play extremely well (or should I say "professionally" since that is all anyone says about him). He will outplay Hatteberg for the majority of the AB's at first. This is amazing considering he is 62 years old.
- Edwin Encarnacion will improve his numbers once some balls start falling his way. He will be fine. Plus his defense has vastly improved.
- Matt Belisle will go 30-0 and win the Cy Young award. This will be the first 30 game winner since Denny McLaine back in the 70's. This is quite an accomplishment for someone who couldn't throw a strike last year. I credit most of his success to the fact that his lip distracts all the hitters.
- Josh Hamilton will win NL Rookie of the Year. He will also get the award for "Coolest Guy Ever". He will also have the honor of having his name on a jersey that I own. He will continue to hit a HR every 6 AB's and will end up with 70 of them. There will be controversy that his system still has drugs in it and therefore his numbers should be stricken from the record.
- Ryan Freel will decapitate himself on the GABP wall. He will then get up, put his head back on and get back in the game. That's how tough Ryan Freel is.
Those are my current predictions regarding the Reds. Check back in a month or so and we'll recap what's happened.
