Malapropisms = Funny

I think it's funny when people mix up phrases and use malapropisms. Even on the odd occasion that I make a mistake...it's still funny. The best ones are the ones that people continue to use over and over again because they think they are saying it correctly. I know someone who says
Great minds on the same wavelength!!!
Close. It's a mix between "Great minds think alike" and "We must be on the same wavelength" (or some variation of that). Here are some more funny ones:
"I might just fade into Bolivian, you know what I mean?" (i.e. oblivion) — Mike Tyson

"I really dig Hannibal. Hannibal had real guts. He rode elephants into Cartilage.," (i.e. Carthage) — Mike Tyson

"I am not going to make a skeptical out of my boxing career." (i.e. spectacle) — Tonya Harding
I love Mike Tyson.

Do you know of any funny malapropisms?

The Self Starter

In the second of my irregular series looking at different idiosyncrasies that people have (1st edition here) we take a look at the Self Starter.

This person has the wonderful ability to have a conversation with anyone...mostly because they just start telling a story no matter what else is going on. This story almost always is about them, of course. Here is a (real) example:

Me: {not involved in a conversation with this person}

SS: Hey...Hey Adam...Come here...Did you notice my glasses have two different lenses in it? Isn't that funny?!?

Me: Um...oh yeah...look at that.

SS: yeah...it's sooooo funny. {wait a beat} Cause I had cataract surgery last week. And I didn't have any of the right glasses, so I had to use these. hahahahaha. Isn't that funny?!? Because one of the lenses is tinted. hahahaha. Isn't that funny?!?!?

Me: ummm...yeah...heh

And that's pretty much how every one of those types of conversations goes. You can also look for the person to ask themselves a question to start it off.

SS: What movie did I see last night? Oh yeah...Ocean's 13

They continue to talk about the movie. Of course they were forced to do this because I was insensitive and did not ask them what movie they watched last night.

my bad.

The Silent Connector

I was thinking last night about how different people are, and I thought about one particular type of person who I really enjoy. I call this person "The Silent Connector". Do you know someone like this?

The SC is generally a happy person who has no trouble being involved in conversations with people and usually has good input. The SC, though, is prone to hear something that sends them off in their own little world. Eventually they join the conversation and spout out something totally random. This is because something they heard triggered a long chain reaction of thoughts. Here is an example:

Me: Hey, did you guys hear about the new landfill the city wants to put in?

The SC (thinking): Landfill? I use Rumpke...They make me buy those red recycling bins...Recycling is good though...I used to collect cans on the side of the street when I was a kid and take them to a place to get paid...They paid me something like $2 for an entire garbage bag...I would use the money to buy baseball cards...Usually Will Clark cards...Will Clark was on Pro's vs. Joe's the other day...Michael Irvin was on that show too...He's a loudmouth.

The SC (spoken): Michael Irvin is a loudmouth.

Here it is in real time.

Me: Hey, did you guys hear about the new landfill the city wants to put in?
(three seconds pass)
The SC: Michael Irvin is a loudmouth.
Me: (stunned silence)

I love when this happens, and I love SCs. Makes normal, everyday conversation much more exciting...who knows what will be said next?!?!?

Look for it.
