NFL Week 1 Thoughts

This is my 100th post!! Here's hoping to many more!

I will be giving my weekly thoughts on what I saw around the NFL.
  • The Patriots look really good. Really good. They've got some tough games coming up with San Diego, Indy and Cincy. I can see them going 14-2 this season.

  • Peyton Manning is really really good and a lot of fun to watch. He could carry this team to another Super Bowl

  • The NFC sucks and almost isn't worth talking about. It's fun to make fun of the Bears though. So here goes. Rex Grossman is still awful. heh heh. I'm so clever!

  • The Raven's defense is spectacular, but will not be as good as it could be if Ray Lewis is seriously injured. That dude is tough. He played last night with a torn triceps muscle. Of course, he killed someone once too, so I guess he isn't TOO cool.

  • After the game on Sunday, Tom Brady walked across the East River in New York to New Jersey and healed a blind man. I'm serious. ESPN said so.

  • Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett, who was likely paralyzed in Sunday's game.

  • Brett Farve still doesn't look very good. At this point I am confident he is playing to break Marino's records.

  • The Browns are TERRIBLE. I will surprised if they win 2 games this year. SOO BAD. They remind me of the late 90's Bengals. Here comes Brady Quinn...and he is going to get hurt.

  • Adrian Peterson will be Offensive Rookie of the Year

That should pretty much do it for this week. Come back next Tuesday for more riveting and ground breaking NFL analysis.

Michael Vick is Sorry

By now I am sure everyone knows about Michael Vick's alleged involvement with dog fighting/killing. I say alleged because it hasn't been proven yet, but there is a FEDERAL indictment. This isn't some silly state indictment...those are a dime a dozen. The Fed only comes down when it has real evidence. Although I think their murder charge against Dr. Richard Kimball was federal. And they were wrong! Kimball didn't kill his wife! And Tommy Lee Jones doesn't care!!

Where was I. Ah, yes. There are reports that Vick has apologized to Falcons owner Arthur Blank and his team. So he is sorry! Let him go! He apologized!

Apparently Commissar Goodell agrees and is not going to send down a severe punishment like he does for the other criminals in the league. But those criminals don't sell t-shirts!! Vick does. Goodell's apparent double standard is so obvious it's insulting. Here's the lesson: If you are a superstar...do whatever you want. The NFL will just recommend you take a PAID leave of absence. I call that vacation. If you are a non-superstar (Jared Allen, Chris Henry, Pacman Jones, etc...) you will be punished harshly.

You hear that Peyton Manning & Tom Brady...you can do what you want! I am guessing that if video tape came out tonight that showed Manning & Brady killing a hooker in an alley in Boston, Goodell would chuckle and "let it slide...but just this time. Now go sell some t-shirts!!!"

The new commissioner is terrible. He got himself in this mess by punishing alleged criminals before their day in court. Now one of his favorites is in trouble and he is going to change how he reacts. It's garbage and I have no respect for him. The NFL should be ashamed...if non-living entities could have emotions of course.

Anyway, the lesson here is that if you see Manning or some other NFL super-duper star in an alley...RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

Championship Game Observations

Welcome to the worst two weeks of the NFL season. 2 weeks of non-stop talking. How exciting!

Anyway...here are my thoughts from last night's games.

  • Rex Grossman is sweet...did you see those throws he was making? He only needed his receivers to make like 3 awesome, acrobatic catches this game. That's a step in the right direction.

  • Reggie Bush is fast and awesome...but I wouldn't be taunting Brian Urlacher. Of course I am 5'9", 150 lbs with little muscle mass and can't run. So there's that.

  • Tom McGorgeous, QB for the Patriots, must be really disappointed. I mean his team loses the AFC championship game. Now he has to go his awesome house, in his awesome car, to see his supermodel girlfriend, and go swimming in his silo full of gold coins. While wearing his 3 Superbowl rings. I feel for the guy...I hope he pulls through.

  • Peyton finally won a big game. I REALLY hope he wins the Superbowl...just so everyone will shut up about it already. Also, I want to see Dan Marino cry on TV. Plus, Marino made out with Einhorn/Finkel. And Einhorn/Finkel was a dude. I saw it on my TV the other day. Looked real to me.

  • But most important...we have two black coaches in the Superbowl. This is the biggest thing that has happened in the civil rights movement since integration. It is hard to truly appreciate this type of thing. In 30 years we will look back on this time as a watershed moment in civil rights history. It's nice to finally see black people have success in professional sports. It's been a long time coming.

They should have some sort of celebration before the super bowl. They can show clips from Glory, and Dr. King speeches, and interviews with Rosa Parks. Then they can show Tony Dungy, who in my mind is equal in historical terms as Frederick Douglas. And I doubt Douglas could have designed a Cover 2 defense
