Reds Update
We are now about a week into spring training, so I figure it's a good time to review what the Reds have done so far.
- First of all, they are 6-0. As I wrote before, I fully expect them to finish 162-0, so this spring training start is a nice warm up for the regular season.
- My man Josh Hamilton is raking the ball. He is hitting almost .600 I think (too lazy to actually look right now). I haven't been able to see him play yet, but I think it is excellent news. I certainly would rather take a chance on him instead of Hopper or Denorfia. Hamilton is the guy that I assume will be a Hall of Famer based on his first week in spring training hitting fastballs. I do this every year.
- The pitching has been average. Our starters are getting hit pretty good, but it's early and they are just working on stuff. I'll worry about or horrendous pitching staff once the season starts.
- Joey Votto (First Baseman) looks really good so far. I think we will see him up with the big club pretty soon. Dude can hit.
- We won a game the other day on a suicide squeeze. Yeah...the Reds successfully executed a suicide squeeze. I am amazed as you are. I'm glad they got that out of their system though...we don't want to do stuff like that in real games. We just want to wait for that home run by Dunn.
- Speaking of Dunn...I hear he is in shape and has dedicated himself to the game. We'll see. I hope it's true because he is a large, talented man...but like I said...we'll see.
- What's the over/under on games lost because of stupid decisions Jerry Narron makes? I say this one goes to 11.
- There is a new beat writer for the Cincinnati Post. His name is Trent Rosecrans. He is very good and very funny. I hope he gets to do the 2nd inning updates with Marty.
- Speaking of Marty and Thom...I am choosing not to comment on their performances (along with Grandpa Joe and Brantley) until they get into the regular season. It's just too early to make even passing judgments.
That's all I got for the first week. Check back later for more of my brilliant observations.
