Craigslist & eBay

I have been reading this book on the history of eBay, which was a fantastic book by the way, and it got me intrigued about selling the junk that we have around the house. (This, by the way, is how I work. When I read about something I then want to go do it. This caused a problem when I read a book about Charles Manson.)

So I decided to list a couple things on eBay and a couple things on Craigslist, which is effectively a classifieds ad website for your city. My eBay auctions have not ended yet and I don't have any bids. I did however sell both items listed on Craigslist.

Mikah got a new iPod over the weekend, which was good because her old one was broken. We were going to throw it out when I decided to check eBay to see if anyone was buying broken iPods. Well, to my surprise there were hundreds of bids on broken iPods. I guess people buy them for parts to fix their other broken iPods or something. So I offered the broken one, labeled as such, for $15. In about 20 minutes I had 6 responses! What I learned there is that I am not a very good judge of value. I ended up getting $20 for it, which is pretty awesome considering I was going to pitch it.

My other listing was for an old digital camera. I think I bought it for $2000 back in 2003. I sold it on Craigslist for $35. Not bad I guess.

Anyway...I am excited to see what my auctions end up going for. It is also nice to have that extra cash around. I think I might get more into this eBay selling thing.

Eventually I would like to have enough money to build a large silo. Then I'll convert the cash to gold coins. Then I will build a diving board and swim around my silo of gold coins, just like Scrooge McDuck does.

NFL Week 3 Thoughts

Sorry for skipping Week 2, had a busy week and actually didn't watch very much football.

  • The Cincinnati Bengals are headed for a 7-9 season, I fear. There are too many holes on this team. Carson Palmer is having an awesome season so far, as are Chard Johnson and TJ. Otherwise they are playing terribly. On the plus side, Chris Henry will be back after the 8th game and Chris Perry will be back after the 5th game. So that should help hypothetically. Although, unless one of them learns how to play lock down defense, it probably won't matter

  • The two best looking teams are New England and Pittsburgh. I only leave the Colts out because I have only watched one of their games. I'm sure they are just fine. But New England is bludgeoning everyone they play, mostly with their passing game. Next up? The Bengals, who can't stop the passing game. Uh Oh.

  • I take back what I said last time about Brett Favray. He looks like he is 25 again. Fun to watch. Although I keep expecting him to wing the ball into triple coverage.

  • The Saints are terrible. Drew Brees looks nothing like he has his entire career. I suspect steroids. Reggie Bush looks like a high schooler. I suspect heroin.

  • Joyfully, the bears are terrible and Rex Grossman continues to suck!! I hope they keep him as the starter forever!

  • I don't understand the rules that state when a ball is ruled incomplete on the field, it can't be challenged. I don't get that. Why? Why is not every single play challengeable? So far this year I have seen some pretty poor officiating. It seems to be bad for everyone though, so at least they are consistent. As a close family friend always says, "THEY NEED FULL TIME OFFICIALS!!!"

  • It's fun to see Houston play well for the first time. I think everyone is rooting for them. Matt Schaub is the greatest QB since Joe Namath (which of course means that he is just a little bit better than average. In a future post I will explain to you why I don't like Joe Namath and think he is overrated.)

DIA News

I have some logistics I'd like to go over with you about DIA and what you can do to help me out. Right now on the site I have 3 different advertisement systems set up. Here is how they work:

Amazon
On the left tool bar is a picture of a book cover under the "What I'm Reading" header. That is a linkable picture and it takes you to the amazon.com page for that book. BUT, you don't have to buy that book. You can buy anything once you link through my page. So if you are going to be buying something on amazon...PLEASE get to amazon.com by clicking on my link. Once you are there you can search for the item you want and buy it like normal.

Ticket City
This is a new advertisement here are DIA. It is a pretty cool site that has access to tickets to pretty much any event anywhere. If you are looking for tickets to a game, or a concert, or a show you can access Ticket City through my page. It's a pretty well run company I think. Even if you aren't looking for tickets for anything, I would appreciate it if you would click on the banner anyway...I get credit for each time someone clicks through to the site.

Google Ads
Directly underneath the Ticket City banner is a banner with a couple of ads on it. I get credit for click throughs on that page as well...so if you are at DIA, please help me out and click on the google ads.

Thanks for helping me out and clicking on/using my advertisers, it will really help DIA out in the long run.

Thanks and please spread the word about DIA!!!

Federer Vs. Sampras

Check out this news story!

My man, Roger Federer, will be playing Pete Sampras in an exhibition match in late November. This is awesome. I really hope it's on TV.

Likely the two greatest tennis players of all time, this should be a fun match to watch. From what I understand Sampras is still playing high quality tennis and should give Federer an awesome match.

No matter who wins, it won't decide who is the greatest of all time because it is an exhibition and Sampras is about 40 years old.

Can't wait though...it BETTER be on TV.

NFL Week 1 Thoughts

This is my 100th post!! Here's hoping to many more!

I will be giving my weekly thoughts on what I saw around the NFL.
  • The Patriots look really good. Really good. They've got some tough games coming up with San Diego, Indy and Cincy. I can see them going 14-2 this season.

  • Peyton Manning is really really good and a lot of fun to watch. He could carry this team to another Super Bowl

  • The NFC sucks and almost isn't worth talking about. It's fun to make fun of the Bears though. So here goes. Rex Grossman is still awful. heh heh. I'm so clever!

  • The Raven's defense is spectacular, but will not be as good as it could be if Ray Lewis is seriously injured. That dude is tough. He played last night with a torn triceps muscle. Of course, he killed someone once too, so I guess he isn't TOO cool.

  • After the game on Sunday, Tom Brady walked across the East River in New York to New Jersey and healed a blind man. I'm serious. ESPN said so.

  • Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett, who was likely paralyzed in Sunday's game.

  • Brett Farve still doesn't look very good. At this point I am confident he is playing to break Marino's records.

  • The Browns are TERRIBLE. I will surprised if they win 2 games this year. SOO BAD. They remind me of the late 90's Bengals. Here comes Brady Quinn...and he is going to get hurt.

  • Adrian Peterson will be Offensive Rookie of the Year

That should pretty much do it for this week. Come back next Tuesday for more riveting and ground breaking NFL analysis.

US Open Part 2

Tonight I watched the much hyped Federer vs Roddick match and it was fantastic. The first two sets were tiebreaks, with Federer winning both, but just barely. After he won those two, it was kind of obvious he would win the 3rd set, and did convincingly. So basically Federer just won the Championship. I mean, technically he has 2 more matches to go...but I'd say he pretty much won.

Anyway...the best part about the match was having my man Andre Agassi calling the action with John McEnroe and Ted Robinson. HE WAS FANTASTIC. I love hearing all-time greats talk about the game and giving their analysis. Hearing him and McEnroe discuss tennis for 2 hours was awesome.

Random Thoughts - 9.3.07

I'm back from a relaxing Labor Day weekend break, which was nice to have because my life is soooo stressful and I am soooo busy all the time. (those who know me will get why I am making that joke. For those who don't...it's because I hate when people always talk about how busy they are. This is refreshing. I feel closer to you now that I bore some of my soul. Don't you?)

Anyway...here are some random thoughts of mine.
  • Roger Federer is rolling through the US Open again. I doubt anyone will stop him.

  • The NFL Season is about to start. This is VERY exciting! I can't wait for Thursday night when the games actually start

  • 2 weeks ago, Pete Mackanin had my support for the next Reds manager. Now he does not. I don't like the decisions he has been making over the past 3 series. They are...dare I say...Narron-esque

  • I have absolutely zero talent at graphic art. It's totally foreign.

  • Hurricane Season was a fantastic book. Read my review.

  • Time Warner finally got with the program and gave me ESPN2HD. FINALLY. Now I need the Big Ten network, FSNHD, and NFL Network and we are good to go.

  • Landlines are totally unnecessary these days. I canceled mine and will save $25 a month.

  • I don't know why people overreact to the stock market ups-and-downs. Settle down people. It will come back up.

  • Check out my daily trivia updates in the top left and right corners of the site. You might learn something new.

  • Lastly, Does anyone know how to make an awesome web page? If so, please contact me! PLEASE!!!!
