Wednesday, September 26, 2007Craigslist & eBayI have been reading this book on the history of eBay, which was a fantastic book by the way, and it got me intrigued about selling the junk that we have around the house. (This, by the way, is how I work. When I read about something I then want to go do it. This caused a problem when I read a book about Charles Manson.) So I decided to list a couple things on eBay and a couple things on Craigslist, which is effectively a classifieds ad website for your city. My eBay auctions have not ended yet and I don't have any bids. I did however sell both items listed on Craigslist. Mikah got a new iPod over the weekend, which was good because her old one was broken. We were going to throw it out when I decided to check eBay to see if anyone was buying broken iPods. Well, to my surprise there were hundreds of bids on broken iPods. I guess people buy them for parts to fix their other broken iPods or something. So I offered the broken one, labeled as such, for $15. In about 20 minutes I had 6 responses! What I learned there is that I am not a very good judge of value. I ended up getting $20 for it, which is pretty awesome considering I was going to pitch it. My other listing was for an old digital camera. I think I bought it for $2000 back in 2003. I sold it on Craigslist for $35. Not bad I guess. Anyway...I am excited to see what my auctions end up going for. It is also nice to have that extra cash around. I think I might get more into this eBay selling thing. Eventually I would like to have enough money to build a large silo. Then I'll convert the cash to gold coins. Then I will build a diving board and swim around my silo of gold coins, just like Scrooge McDuck does. Right now on the site I have 3 different advertisement systems set up. Here is how they work: Amazon On the left tool bar is a picture of a book cover under the "What I'm Reading" header. That is a linkable picture and it takes you to the amazon.com page for that book. BUT, you don't have to buy that book. You can buy anything once you link through my page. So if you are going to be buying something on amazon...PLEASE get to amazon.com by clicking on my link. Once you are there you can search for the item you want and buy it like normal. Ticket City This is a new advertisement here are DIA. It is a pretty cool site that has access to tickets to pretty much any event anywhere. If you are looking for tickets to a game, or a concert, or a show you can access Ticket City through my page. It's a pretty well run company I think. Even if you aren't looking for tickets for anything, I would appreciate it if you would click on the banner anyway...I get credit for each time someone clicks through to the site. Google Ads Directly underneath the Ticket City banner is a banner with a couple of ads on it. I get credit for click throughs on that page as well...so if you are at DIA, please help me out and click on the google ads. Thanks for helping me out and clicking on/using my advertisers, it will really help DIA out in the long run. Thanks and please spread the word about DIA!!! My man, Roger Federer, will be playing Pete Sampras in an exhibition match in late November. This is awesome. I really hope it's on TV. Likely the two greatest tennis players of all time, this should be a fun match to watch. From what I understand Sampras is still playing high quality tennis and should give Federer an awesome match. No matter who wins, it won't decide who is the greatest of all time because it is an exhibition and Sampras is about 40 years old. Can't wait though...it BETTER be on TV. I will be giving my weekly thoughts on what I saw around the NFL.
That should pretty much do it for this week. Come back next Tuesday for more riveting and ground breaking NFL analysis. The first two sets were tiebreaks, with Federer winning both, but just barely. After he won those two, it was kind of obvious he would win the 3rd set, and did convincingly. So basically Federer just won the Championship. I mean, technically he has 2 more matches to go...but I'd say he pretty much won. Anyway...the best part about the match was having my man Andre Agassi calling the action with John McEnroe and Ted Robinson. HE WAS FANTASTIC. I love hearing all-time greats talk about the game and giving their analysis. Hearing him and McEnroe discuss tennis for 2 hours was awesome. (those who know me will get why I am making that joke. For those who don't...it's because I hate when people always talk about how busy they are. This is refreshing. I feel closer to you now that I bore some of my soul. Don't you?) Anyway...here are some random thoughts of mine.
